A Swift Kick in the Ass

Okay I know everyone out there has been wondering where the heck I have been since I went to camp. I am going to be honest, I fell of the running bus. I didn't quite give up but I have been able to talk myself out of running, saying that I have lost enough weight and I am happy with how I look, and people have noticed how hard I have worked. but things have started going back in the direction that I started. I have gained about 10 lbs back that I have lost. so I need to do something. I havent been able to get myself to run on a regular basis. I have run multiple times saying today is going to be the day that I get totally back on track. One week I even ran 4 days in a row hoping to get myself back into it. I think what I am going to do is print out a schedule like I did when I was first running. This way I can have a visual plan in front of me that I can mark off the days that I run and use it as a reminder. I have also set another goal for myself. 220 by 2/20/11 I am giving myself 3 months to lose 26 lbs. so I need all the support that I can get to keep me on track!

Hi Greg! Welcome back!
I started running Tuesday after several months off too - and went again today. My knees really were stiff and hurt - but I did make one mile (2 quarters and one half) plus a short bike and swim afterwards. Trying to set realistic short term goals along with the long term ones - as the long term ones often seem so far off that it's easy to say "i'll just start next week!"
Good luck - do something each day - push-ups, stretches - even if it's not running to keep focused. But let's both set goals of 3 good workouts a week - how's that sound?

Good for you. You were one of a few bloggers who inspired me to begin running. I've done a 5K and am going to do a 10K in January. At 280, that is going to be a chore.

Thanks for the inspiration. I'd like to return the favor. I suggest you pick an upcoming race, set a goal and train for it. Make it a big public commitment and let us cheer you on as you train.

You can do it. One run at a time.

Greg,
I fell off the bandwagon too. My wife and I were training for the St George Marathon and both got up to around 10mi long runs (slow ones...) and then we just didn't have time to both train and take care of our kids etc... Well I haven't got a good run in for several months at all.

I am now doing what Big Clyde suggested and chose another race to set as my goal which will be in April. I will need to decide the distance, but this particular event has 5k,10k and Half Marathon distances. I have a few months before registration closes to pick the distance, so I will see how it goes. I think the half should even be pretty realistic if I get back on a scheduled training program, and then a month after that race is the registration for St George again, and I might try to give it another go...

More importantly though based on your post we are within 1 or 2 lbs of each other right now. If you don't mind I think I will jump on your 220 by 2/20/2011 and set the same goal. Maybe we can help keep each other motivated knowing we started at the same weight.
